Desktop Steel has certified D2 device metal for the Studio System 2 steel 3D printing platform.

It’s the newest in a lot of materials qualification bulletins Desktop Steel has made this 12 months, with the D2 device metal amongst these certified for the Manufacturing System, a 316L stainless-steel materials certified for the Store System and Ti64 certified for the Studio System 2 machine.

The D2 device metal materials is a flexible high-carbon, high-chromium air-hardening device metal that boasts excessive hardness and compressive power after warmth remedy. In its hardened situation, it affords excessive put on resistance, dimensional stability and corrosion resistance making it appropriate for conformal cooling purposes. The fabric is used for a spread of chilly work instruments, akin to gauges, burnishing instruments, coining and sizing device members, and blanking and forming dies, all of which want a mixture of wear and tear resistance and average toughness.

“D2 device metal has conventional been a difficult and costly materials to work with. With this materials now accessible on the Studio System 2, we’ve streamlined manufacturing of D2 elements to simply two easy steps for improved affordability and accessibility,” commented Desktop Steel co-founder and CTO Jonah Myerberg. “We’re excited to have the ability to supply our prospects this new materials with greater hardness after warmth remedy than all the different Studio System supplies certified to-date, unlocking new purposes that require tooling materials grade power.”

“Egar Device and Die is a quickly rising manufacturing firm for automotive stamping dies, manufacturing stampings and welded assemblies and we’ve been eagerly awaiting the launch of D2 for our two Studio Methods,” added Colin Kools, Director of Additive Manufacturing at Egar Device and Die. “The discharge of this materials will serve to push our tooling design to new heights and can give us the crucial materials properties and hardness wanted for our die elements.”
