Coherent optics have been the go-to resolution for high-end optical transport methods for years. Finally these optics have been modularized and with current advances in DSP design and optics manufacturing, this expertise is now accessible in small type issue pluggable modules. Cisco acknowledged the significance of this expertise and purchased the business’s chief on this house, Acacia Communications in March of 2021. In Episode 21, we proceed our dialog with Tom Williams, Director of Technical Advertising, who joined Cisco by way of the Acacia acquisition. Tom Williams leads advertising and marketing efforts for the Acacia coherent optics group that was acquired by Cisco in March 2021. Tom has spent over 20 years growing optical transmission tools starting from 10G to 1.2T. He participates in a wide range of coherent standardization actions in OIF, IEEE and Open ROADM and is co-chair of the OpenZR+ MSA. Tom spent almost 15 years in varied administration roles at Optium, the place he participated within the firm’s 2006 IPO and 2008 acquisition by Finisar. Tom joined Acacia in 2015, the place his position has included company and product advertising and marketing accountability, in addition to contributing to product roadmap definitions.
