VIA Applied sciences Launches Edge AI Starter Equipment, Powered by Its SOM-9X35 Module

Embedded specialist VIA Applied sciences has introduced the launch of a brand new starter package for its SOM-9X35 system-on-module, via which it claims it could “speed up time to market” for edge AI initiatives.

“As AI strikes more and more to the sting, the demand for highly effective and reasonably priced edge units with the facility and suppleness to run clever imaginative and prescient purposes comparable to facial, object, gesture, and movement recognition is rising at an exponential price,” claims VIA’s Richard Brown. “By combining the core compute, video, and show elements in a single bundle, the VIA SOM-9X35 Starter Equipment allows our prospects to jump-start the event of modern units to benefit from these burgeoning market alternatives.”

The center of the starter package is the VIA SOM-9X35, a system-on-module constructed across the MediaTek i350 system-on-chip with 4 Arm Cortex-A53 cores working at as much as 2GHz, an Arm Mali-G52 MCI graphics processor working at as much as 800MHz, MediaTek’s in-house APU 1.0 edge AI coprocessor working at as much as 500MHz, and a HiFi4 digital sign processor (DSP) together with 1GB, 2GB, or 4GB of LPDDR4 reminiscence and 16GB of flash.

The module is housed on a VAB-935 service which incorporates HDMI 1.4 and four-lane MIPI Show Serial Interface (DSI) video outputs, a four-lane MIPI Digicam Serial Interface (CSI) connector with non-compulsory second digital camera port, on-board microphone with 3.5mm enter, output, and speaker headers, 10/100 Ethernet, two USB 2.0 Host and one micro-USB 2.0 On-The-Go (OTG) ports, an RS-232 connector, 40-pin Raspberry Pi-style general-purpose enter/output (GPIO) header and secondary digital enter/output (DIO) header with 10 obtainable pins.

To get system designers up to the mark as rapidly as potential, VIA can also be bundling a 7″ 1024×600 MIPI LCD touchscreen show, a 13-megapixel digital camera module, two audio system, and a microphone, whereas the package contains dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5 connectivity — plus a mini-PCI Categorical (mPCIe) slot for an non-compulsory 4G mobile modem. Software program photos are offered for Android 10 and a Linux distribution constructed by way of the Yocto Mission 3.1.

Oddly, whereas VIA has confirmed the launch of the starter package — and the flexibility to purchase the SOM itself, as soon as you’ve got designed your individual service — it didn’t share pricing. Extra info might be discovered on the corporate’s product web page.
