Digital paper, AKA E Ink, shows are wonderful units, able to holding a picture in place with out the applying of energy. Sadly, their refresh price tends to be fairly low, and they’re usually restricted to displaying shades of black and white, so their purposes are usually considerably area of interest.
One place the place such a show is de facto helpful if when displaying textual content that modifications solely intermittently, akin to worth knowledge at a retailer, or as Hamed Taha demonstrates in his E Ink Pen Holder venture, for revealing a quote of the day. His construct embeds a 3.7″ E Ink display screen within a pen holder made with epoxy resin, together with an ESP32 module for management. The end result, to this point, is a pen holder that may be up to date utilizing a mobile phone and a wi-fi charger/receiver, and one thing that may hopefully be enhanced software-wise sooner or later
It’s a neat thought, and an idea that others could possibly take and “mould” to their very own functions. After all, one hazard of working with such a everlasting construction is that you may’t actually make things better as soon as the epoxy has cured. Taha went by a number of iterations, dropping show and management {hardware} within the course of, earlier than producing a practical gadget.
